Rainier Devolder

Senior Software Engineer

I'm a software developer at Level 12, focused on technical delivery. I work to understand what our customers need, then build the software that solves their business problems.

Q&A

Do you deserve a geek badge? Why or why not?

Yes. To me "geek" can be anyone who has a passion that leads to an acquisition of knowledge in some domain. I think of myself as a geek because I've passionately honed my skills as a software engineer for a good part of my life.

What’s your favorite bumper sticker?

I appreciate seeing any bumper sticker that will give me a chuckle, even if I don't agree with the message.

What would you do if you didn’t have to work?

I'd explore the world more than I do now, spend more time with family, and build community around some of my passions like growing food. I'd also figure out how I'd exercise my mind so that I can stay sharp and age well.

What do you miss most about being a child?

Moving from Belgium as a child, I miss the Belgian fry shacks (frietkot) among other things I grew up with.

What do you like most about your job? What do you like least?

What I like most is the lean teams. They mean I get to work with really competent people, take on serious impact, and own what I'm doing. I don't dislike anything about working at Level 12 yet.

What’s one of your favorite websites?

inaturalist.org is a website I like. I've used it to help me locate wild foods to forage.

What’s your favorite quote?

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

What’s your goal in life?

To live a good life with integrity that I can be proud of. To explore nature, develop my passions, push my boundaries, and to leave the things I touch better than I found them.
